I first met Barbara in October 1965 when we worked together. We were both new mothers and our friendship developed over the years through common work connections and our children who became good friends. Barbara was also Tawny Owl in the North End Brownie group that my eldest daughter Karen attended. I soon discovered that Barbara was a Night Owl when in the evening she would involve us in Scrabble an then many years later on a visit back to Bulawayo from Australia, when I was staying with her at Burnside, she introduced me to Mah-jong.
